After being secluded from the rest of the world, the first place in Japan to welcome visitors was a small fishing village in Kanagawa prefecture named Yokohama. This happened back in the mid-1800s and Yokohama is no longer that small village!

Kanagawa is a prefecture that holds its own in the world of tourism and it’s easy to see why. From the famed ryokan and hot springs of nature-rich Hakone to the sleepy seaside town of Kamakura, it’s a destination whose siren song captivates visitors from around the world. In fact, the renowned Golden Route sweeps down along Kanagawa’s generous shores, surrounded by both Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay.

Its location as a direct neighbor to the new capital of Tokyo en route to the old capital of Kyoto is, perhaps, the reason why Kanagawa was the backdrop to many historic events. Inseparable from traditions and culture while being influenced by the world, Kanagawa prefecture is overflowing with opportunities for travelers to experience true Japan. Whether within a fleeting moment or an epic adventure, Kanagawa is a wonderous setting behind what becomes a person’s memories and photographs.

In our inaugural volume, it is fitting that we begin our journey to Kanagawa in the port of its capital city: Yokohama. It was in  Yokohama that Commodore Matthew Perry of the United States Navy signed the Treaty of Kanagawa. Reserved Cruise offers travelers the chance to take to the waters on the historic Tokyo Bay, just like Commodore Perry.

Reserved cruise

Reserved Cruise offers ocean outings throughout the Kanagawa coasts. Exceptional hospitality and service from start to finish, their highly skilled and knowledgeable captain and crew are trained to be attentive, conscientious, and professional, yet friendly.

Weather permitting, boating enthusiasts and budding sailors can experience a splendid excursion on the bay. There are a variety of itineraries and tasteful meals to choose from. On cruises where dinner is an option, Reserved Cruise offers multi-course meals with a chef onboard or takes passengers to highly reputable restaurants. Ocean outings can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. Most itineraries have an allotted duration, but can be extended upon request. There are nine sea-worthy ships that serve different purposes.

On a Monaco-style yacht, seafarers can enjoy an indulgent, yet intimate cruise. While guests glide around Tokyo Bay, enjoy the ocean air while enjoying a quintessentially Japanese meal of sushi from Matsunozushi.  In 1910, Matsunozushi started out as a simple street stall in central Tokyo. During the G20 Osaka Summit, Matsunozushi catered a luncheon for the British Royal Family during their visit to Yokohama. This local restaurant offers exquisite sushi that’s more than 110 years in the making.
